Buying a second hand Car
When buying a second hand car it can be hard to choose just what car you want. However, according to Auto Trader the demand for cars under the £1,000 mark is increasing as drivers increasingly want to cut costs.
This means that cars such as the Vauxhall Corsa MkI, Ford Fiesta Mk3, Ford Focus MkI, Renault Clio MkII, Peugeot 206, Vauxhall Astra MkIV, Volkswagen Golf MkIV, Ford Ka MkI, Volkswagen Polo MkIII and Fiat Punto MkII are extremely popular with buyers looking for a cheaper car. What's more, because of the high cost of motoring they are especially popular with the first time buyer market.
However, the used car parts market is a lot more than the budget end of the market and according to another survey by Autotrader the most popular second hand car in 2010 was the BMW 3 series which was the most searched for car of the year.
The BMW beat the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus into second and third place respectively with the Vauxhall Astra and Audi A4 completing the list of top five searched for cars.
According to Autotrader, the popularity of the BMW 3 series is likely to be down to its cost effectiveness. The BMW has comparatively low running costs when compared to others in a similar price bracket and with more people watching the pennies it is a popular choice amongst motorists looking for a car that is good value in terms of running costs.
They also say that the quality and instantly recognisable Volkswagen Golf continues to attract punters. The Golf has a great performance record and an interior which other cars are judged off making it popular with drivers thanks also to its premium quality feel.
What's more, with the increase in VAT at the beginning of the year and the rising cost of fuel cost effectiveness and lower running costs are going to be key factors for people buying second hand cars this year, as more people look to keep the cost of motoring down. Consumers are not only looking for a bargain price but also a car that is not going to cost them too much to run.
